About Kaitlin

Kaitlin Dixon brings a wealth of legal expertise to Lawpoint, having spent the first decade of her career as a prosecutor. As a skilled litigator, she has successfully handled a wide range of cases, from drug-related offenses to serious sexual and violent crimes. Her litigation background is complemented by her work on more than a dozen appellate briefs as well as participating in oral argument in front of the Kansas Supreme Court. This blend of trial and appellate experience has made Kaitlin a formidable advocate, equipped to provide comprehensive legal support for her clients. Her unwavering commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes ensures her clients receive personalized and strategic representation.

Kaitlin’s practice focuses on four key areas: family law, criminal defense, Child-in-Need-of-Care (CINC), and appellate work. In her family law practice, she assists clients through the complexities of divorce, paternity, child custody disputes, and premarital and postmarital agreements. She works closely with her clients to develop tailored legal strategies that meet their unique goals. Kaitlin understands the emotional and financial pressures that accompany family law matters and is dedicated to guiding her clients with practical solutions and compassion.

LawPoint Kaitlin Dixon

Kaitlin is also certified in Collaborative Family Law, a practice that focuses on resolving family law matters, such as divorce and child custody, outside the courtroom through negotiation and cooperation. This process allows both parties to work together with their attorneys to reach mutually beneficial solutions, avoiding the stress and cost of litigation.

Kaitlin’s ability to foster open communication, her empathetic approach, and her dedication to finding practical resolutions make her particularly effective in collaborative law. She is skilled at guiding clients through this cooperative process while ensuring their rights and interests are fully protected. Kaitlin’s calm demeanor and problem-solving mindset enable her to facilitate agreements that meet the needs of all parties involved.

As an experienced criminal defense attorney, Kaitlin brings a unique advantage from her years as a prosecutor. She understands the tactics and strategies prosecutors use to pursue convictions, allowing her to anticipate their moves and build strong defenses for her clients. Whether her clients are facing misdemeanors or felonies, Kaitlin provides aggressive and thoughtful representation, fully aware of the high stakes involved in criminal proceedings.

Kaitlin also has extensive experience in Child-in-Need-of-Care (CINC) cases, where she represents parents, grandparents, and other interested parties in navigating the complex and often overwhelming process. Her background as a former CINC prosecutor enables her to offer comprehensive legal support, from working with the Department for Children and Families (DCF) to collaborating with social workers and advocating in court. Kaitlin also represents family members and foster parents seeking interested party status in CINC cases, ensuring that their voices are heard in decisions that impact children’s futures.

Her legal expertise extends beyond the trial court to appellate work, where she assists clients in reviewing and challenging decisions made at the lower court level. Kaitlin’s experience in determining which issues to pursue on appeal and whether filing an appeal is appropriate is a crucial asset. With time-sensitive deadlines in appeals, her prompt and thorough approach is key to providing effective appellate representation.

While Kaitlin enjoys practicing in Sedgwick County, she has a deep passion for working in smaller counties like Harvey, Cowley, McPherson, and Marion. Her experience as a prosecutor in Harvey and Cowley Counties has given her a unique appreciation for the close-knit nature of these communities and the distinct dynamics of legal proceedings in smaller jurisdictions. Kaitlin finds that this environment fosters a more collaborative and approachable legal process, allowing her to resolve cases efficiently and effectively. She values the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in these communities, where her work directly contributes to the lives of the people she serves.

Kaitlin, a Wichita, KS native, discovered her passion for law during a First Amendment class in college. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, with a minor in Communication, from Wichita State University in 2007, followed by her Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2010. Kaitlin is an active member of the Wichita Bar Association, Wichita Women Attorneys Association, and Kansas Bar Association. In addition to her other practice areas, she serves as the Drug Court Defense Attorney for Harvey County, a role she finds incredibly rewarding as it allows her to help individuals navigate the challenges of recovery within the legal system.

In her personal life, Kaitlin and her husband love living in Wichita with their family and enjoy exploring everything the city has to offer. They take pleasure in discovering local attractions, dining spots, and hidden gems around town.
