About Kristina
Kristina Retzlaff is known for her calm and reassuring presence when chaos surrounds her. She is a skilled litigator but prefers to resolve cases – especially those with children – outside of the courtroom. Her greatest strength is her ability to tell stories and explain complex issues in a simple, easy-to-understand manner.
Graduating from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2004, Kristina served as the staff articles editor on the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy and participated in the Elder Law Clinic and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. She also spent several years as a regional adviser for her sorority, Delta Gamma.
Kristina received Bachelors Degrees in Economics and Communications, cum laude, from Wichita State University in 2001. While at Wichita State, she was involved in many campus activities and was known as a trusted student leader on campus.
Initially focusing on Social Security Disability claims, Kristina later expanded her practice to Family Law in 2011. Since 2015, she has served as a court-appointed Mediator, Limited Case Manager, Domestic Conciliator, and Case Manager. Kristina has handled multiple Domestic Conciliation cases in Sedgwick and the surrounding counties, and her no-nonsense approach has earned her recognition as one of the “Top-Three Divorce Attorneys” in Wichita for the last three years. With her leadership at the firm, Floodman Family Law was recognized as the “Top Family Law Firm” for both 2022 and 2023.
Committed to personalized service, Kristina limits her caseload to ensure she can respond quickly to her clients’ needs. She excels at breaking down complex legal issues, empowering clients to make informed decisions about their futures. Her peers consistently praise her work, and she has garnered positive reviews from many of her previous clients—some returning to her for help with other legal issues years later.
In 2024, Kristina became trained to practice Collaborative Family Law, which is a method of handling family law cases that does not require court involvement. These cases are much less-stressful and provide a way for Kristina’s clients to move forward after a relationship, without the typical “collateral damage” that often comes from litigation. Kristina is highly-skilled in Alternative Dispute Resolution, and is able to offer creative solutions to the thorniest of problems.
Kristina now brings this same skillset to her new role as an Estate Planning attorney. She will begin offering these services to existing clients in late-2024, and to the Wichita community in 2025.
Outside of her practice, Kristina has co-chaired the Family Law Committee at the Wichita Bar Association and is actively involved in her community as a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she served on the Welcome Committee. She also volunteers with her children’s schools and the Wichita Alumnae Panhellenic and Delta Gamma organizations. Kristina resides in Wichita with her husband and three of their five children, who range in age from 10 to 23.

Kristina's Alternative Dispute Resolutions Services
Mediation
Mediation is a process in which a neutral person facilitates communication between two parties to promote settlement and assist them in reaching a voluntary agreement regarding their dispute. Our mediators have conducted many mediations over the last 10 years. We are successful at incorporating the knowledge we’ve gained from our courtroom expertise into our mediation process. Mediation has been shown to leave parties more satisfied than a court-imposed decision. Mediation is less expensive than a trial, and offers the parties a chance to confidentially explore options that may not be possible at trial.
Domestic Conciliation
Domestic Conciliation is a process that helps the parties work toward a settlement of their disputes, generally in custody-related matters. Domestic Conciliation is not confidential. The conciliator can make a recommendation to the court, regarding any issues the parties cannot reach agreement. Our conciliators are highly-trained to remain neutral even when making recommendations, and we always put the needs of the children at the forefront of our work
Collaborative Family Law
Collaborative Family Law is a confidential, cost-effective approach to divorcing outside of court. A team of two attorneys, a neutral family counselor and a neutral financial expert will meet with you and your spouse to help you build options for your family’s future. The CFL team builds creative solutions outside of court that will protect your confidentiality and can usually complete the entire case in far less time than a traditional courtroom case
Case Management
Case Management is a process in which a court-appointed neutral manages disputes and makes recommendations about ongoing conflicts between two parents. Our case managers are frequently appointed by the courts when the case is considered to be “high-conflict”, and we have successfully handled several cases where the parents have been able to move out of case management after working with us over a period of several months or years.
Parent Child Coordination
Parent Coordination is a process in which a neutral alternative dispute professional will assist the parties in following their current parenting plan. The PC may make decisions in reports or recommendations to the court. A parenting coordinator can be appointed for up to 2 years, so it is important to find a provider you trust to remain neutral throughout the process.
